Farewell

An evocative evening length dance work by Nugent/Matteson Dance. The piece had 5 sections 3 were lengthy solo/duet movement structures. The sound vocabulary of one section involved granularly re-synthesized surface noise from a very scratched Erik Satie record. I also took the last chords from the tracks on the Satie record including the reverb tails and took that chord progression and wrote a piece around it. The surface noise became a recurring theme connecting sections and underscoring others.  In Paul’solo cello samples were run through an elaborate tape delay patch in Reaktor that emulated Brian Eno’s double tape delay rig used on all the Robert Fripp Frippertronics recordings. A slowly evolving melody was written with the delays in mind.
